A new method metallization of textile materials by ion – plasma sputtering developed by us allows to produce synthetic fabrics with a wonderful “metallic” luster. Thin films of the real metal or alloy are deposited at the fabric’s surface giving to the fabrics a noble and original nuance, for example, pearl color, luster of titanium, stainless steel, gold, silver, aluminium, bronze etc. The specified colors and nuances are impossible to obtain by no one of the famous nowadays methods for treatment of textile fabrics: dyeing, pigment printing, metallizing by means of electrolyte solutions, thermal vacuum deposition.

As the treatment of fabrics is performed under soft conditions of a so-called “low - temperature plasma” the fabrics keep a soft touch and permeability to air and moisture, drape ability and tensile strength.

Metallic layer dramatically reduces the electric surface resistivity of fabrics giving to them wonderful antistatic properties. Such fabrics don’t accumulate any static charges during the wearing. Furthermore, a method developed by us allows to produce the electrical conductive fabrics, i.e. fabrics able to conduct the electricity. It provides to use them like flexible electrical conductive elements; the fact is especially actual for manufacturing so-called “smart textile”.

Special prepared metallized fabrics and nonwoven materials have a good shielding effect and provide the protection of peoples and equipment from the influence of electromagnetic fields and infra – red radiation. Ability of the metalized fabrics to reflect visible and infra-red radiation can be improved by a previous calendaring.

Possible application of textile materials metallized by plasma sputtering method

• Production of fashionable fabrics for sewing salable jackets, jeans, curtains of “metallic” color.

• Use as top garment elements to keep heat emitted by the human organism and to reflect any excess of outside thermal radiation.

• Use for cloth elements as a light reflecting covering.

• Use for military equipment to reduce the visibility by night viewing devices of infra-red and radio ranges.

• Protection of computer systems and electronic control systems from false signals, manufacturing protective devices to prevent the information leakage.

• Producing elements of special working cloth for people working in hot workshops as well as for fire-fighters.

• Manufacture of special explosion-proof filters for coal mines and food industry enterprises.

• Manufacture of a thermal covering based on heat-resistant glass-, silica- and basalt fabrics used as a heat insulation.

• Manufacture of solar reflective coatings based on materials used in the construction industry: polyurethane canopies with a heat-resistant covering, metalized fabrics from polyamide-, polyester- and polypropylene fibers. Manufacture of solar reflective shutters on base of metallized fabrics.

• Manufacture of the top of shoes, woman bags, metalized ribbon and other haberdashery materials.

• Manufacture of materials resistant to accumulation of static electricity: curtains for “clean rooms”, operating rooms, special cloth for personnel working in the electronic industry.

• Sewing bactericidal burn-curing bed sheets and napkins.

• Manufacture of bactericidal filters.

• Manufacture of cloth elements protecting from detrimental effects of radio telephones, radio frequency and microwave frequency equipment, cloth for attendants working in the medical offices for physical-therapy.

• Manufacture of catalysts with a large contact surface on base of textile for chemical and automotive industries.

• Manufacture of cord fabrics with an improved adhesion to rubber etc.
